The bursts and flares of a fireworks spectacle are part of the annual Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade, and families can usher in the New Year at the Old-Fashioned New Year's Eve Party. Other seasonal highlights include: The Winter Carnival and Parade of Ice in January, which features ice sculptures along Main Street, and the Red River Songwriter's Festival also in January, a three-day celebration of music and song.

Nearby, Taos Ski Valley has cranked up a new lift that goes up to 12, 450 feet, just shy of the Kachina Peak summit. For many, Taos Ski Valley itself is a life altering experience. The community celebrates diversity nonexistent in places like Vail. TSV aspires to be no one but itself. Many changes have transpired and there are many more to come. They are going to renovate the base area and are planning for a lift up to the lovely Wild West, right now a hike-only and entirely danceable 60 acres.
